When creating a new organization in VolunTie, you can choose how visible your organization is to others. This decision will impact how easily users can find and join your organization. Here’s a breakdown of the three visibility options:
Public | Who can see your organization? Anyone can search for your organization by name and/or description using the search function within the app. Who can join? Anyone can request to join your organization. However, they won’t be able to access conversations or resources until their request is approved by an administrator. Ideal for: Organizations looking to recruit new members or open to collaboration with external users. |
Private | Who can see your organization? Your organization won’t appear in search results. Who can join? External users can still gain access, but only if they have a specific link to your organization. Once they have the link, they can request to join. Ideal for: Organizations that want some control over who joins but may still collaborate with some external users. Sharing the link allows for targeted invitations. |
Fully Hidden | Who can see your organization? No one can find your organization through search, and there’s no public link available. Who can join? New members can only be added by invitation from existing members. Ideal for: Organizations with a high degree of confidentiality or exclusivity. Only pre-approved users will be able to join. |
Choosing the Right Visibility Level
The best visibility level for your organization depends on your specific needs. Consider the following factors when making your decision:
- How open are you to new members?
- Do you need to collaborate with external users?
- How important is confidentiality for your organization?
We recommend selecting the visibility level that best balances your desire for collaboration with your need for control over who joins your organization.
